As an international school, we take pride in our ability to provide a standard of education and encourage a level of achievement that will allow our students to compete effectively in an increasingly globally connected world. The need for us to maintain this standard demands not just that teaching methods must be appropriate to the needs of the students but also that students who enter the school are able to demonstrate that they have the potential or ability to achieve the expected levels of success.

Admissions to the school will not be based on ethnic, religious or social grounds. Admissions will be recommended on the basis of educational potential or proven educational ability.

Testing in Mathematics, English and Science is necessary to establish the prospective student's grasp of the subject matter covered. This is especially true for students who are transferring from systems which are different to the British system. There are often wide variations in curricula which we need to measure.

Poor performance in the admissions test may mean of course that a student has simply not covered the test material and will not necessarily mean rejection. We also conduct an informal interview with the student which forms part of the overall assessment. Only if a student fails to show basic understanding or shows a lack of potential will they be refused admission. However it will not preclude them from trying again at a later stage.

It may sometimes be necessary, in the view of the school, to ask a student to repeat a year or part of a year. This may be due to differences in the timing of school years (i.e. students joining the school mid-year) or indeed because of differing school standards. We will recommend what we feel is the best option for the child and not necessarily what may suit the parents' point of view. While this approach may seem unusual initially, we believe the student will be better off in the long run. Of course we may also recommend promotion to a higher level where appropriate.

AGE:
Students should ideally be 11 years old on the 1st of September of the year of entry into Year 7, 12 years old for Year 8, and so on. However, the school will show some flexibility in the age requirements for any particular level, depending on our assessment of the student's ability to cope with the educational and emotional demands of the desired level of entry. The school, however, reserves the right to place any admitted student where it feels such student will benefit the most. Placement of each child will always be discussed fully with parents.
